FAQs
Why isn’t Council fully refurbishing the fountain so the catchment basin works again?
Fully restoring the fountain to its original working condition is currently outside the scope of this project. The fountain is ageing and much of its underground infrastructure has deteriorated over time. There are identified issues with the drainage and water systems caused from age, and fixing these would require major works and significant cost.
This project instead focuses on revitalising the fountain structure and surrounding area to improve the look, feel and use of the space, while taking a responsible, cost-effective approach.
The Weeroona Park Fountain has been identified for further potential restoration investigations in the future.
How was this solution selected?
This solution was selected based on broad community feedback, which highlighted the fountain’s importance within the park and supported options to refresh and enhance the space.
The chosen design improves the overall appearance and atmosphere of the area and delivers a positive outcome for the park, while avoiding the high costs associated with a full operational restoration.
Will the Weeroona Park fountain be restored in the future?
At this stage, restoring the fountain will require major works of a significant cost, with the requirement of further technical investigations to understand what is feasible.
This revitalisation project gives the fountain and surrounding space new life now, while maintaining the opportunity for future upgrades, subject to further investigation and available budget in future years.
